Working for the Responsible Enterprise
Many J.P. Morgan people are actively involved with issues of corporate social responsibility (CSR), ranging from policies on diversity & inclusion through to concerns about the environment. In reality, this is as much about personal motivation as corporate responsibility. Many of the initiatives and policies that are now part of the J.P. Morgan landscape first grew from the commitment and creativity of a few concerned individuals who wanted to make a difference in the world.
We want to highlight our approach to CSR here because it has become such an intrinsic part of working life at J.P. Morgan: candidates too are increasingly interested in the ethical credentials and credibility of potential employers. Alongside traditional philanthropy and volunteering activities, we are applying core expertise to global issues, whether it’s providing microfinance to entrepreneurs in very poor countries or sharing our climate change research in the public domain.
We are engaged in a shift in consciousness that refuses to treat CSR as an ethical afterthought or optional extra. We believe that everything we do should be focused on delivering sustainable and tangible benefits to individuals, communities and environments across the globe. We also recognize that we do most good when we do what we are good at: by connecting the scale and competitive advantage of our business with the talent and enthusiasm of our people, we can make the world a better place.
So, effective and purposeful CSR is a natural part of doing first-class business in a first-class way. It’s about applying the ambition and energy of J.P. Morgan people to new social challenges and global circumstances. These apparently new applications for our expertise that go back to the roots of investment banking: it’s about making important things happen in the world.
